Before Reading
Title: The Medusa Plot
By: Gordon Korman Genre: Historical Fiction Prediction: After reading the first few chapters, i think that Dan and Amy will have to steal something to get their family back. That they will have to do something with an object that looks like Medusa. |
During Reading
Setting: Florence, Italy
Plot and Main Events: 1. Kidnapping of seven Cahills for ransom. 2. Dan, Amy, Jonah, and Hamilton go to Italy to please Vesper One, the main Villain. 3. They steal the "Medusa" for the Vespers. 4. Handing over the painting, they find out they must head to Switzerland for further instruction. Characters:Dan Cahill: Grandson of Grace Cahill; Winner of the 39 clues Amy Cahill: Sister of Dan; Helps Dan with the whole thing. Conflict: Reagan Holt, Phoenix Wizard, Natalie Kabra, Ted Starling, Alistair Oh, Nellie Gomez, and Fiske Cahill were kidnapped by the Vespers, Nellie getting shot by the Vespers in the arm. Theme: try not to be part of a powerful family. Author's Purpose: Entertainment Point of View: Everything is in first person. Vocabulary: Contentment: a state of happiness and satisfaction. Conspirator: a person who takes part in a conspiracy. Arsonist: a person who commits arson. Deceleration: a decrease in range of change. Assailants: a person who physically attacks another. Finding the big idea in texts: Action, sorrow. Author's message is if your family is in danger, take action. I can't really connect with this. I have heard this expressed in his other books in this series. |
After Reading
Focusing on text-to-text connections:
This reminds me of the book The Maze of Bones by Rick Riordan because Dan and Amy get surprised by the clue hunt, just like this book with the kidnappings. It's similar to the other books in the first series because they're always travaling to different places in each book just like in this one. It's different because this is like an action and adventure and I sometimes read informational text like in the newspapers that doesn't have action and adventure. Questions: I would recommend this book to people who love reading action books because it has quite alot of action. I wouldn't change the end because it ends by showing that Vesper One is actually following them. I don't have any questions that i would want to ask Gordon Korman about the book. |
