During Reading
Setting: The Castle, Marram Marshes
Plot and Main Events: The Queenling, Jenna, is taken in by the Heap family after her mother was assassinated by an assassin; the Heaps move away from the Castle to hide from the Supreme Custodian and the Hunter; they have to split up into two groups, one goes to Aunt Zelda's, the other goes to Aunt Galen's house; Simon Heap goes back to the castle to get married and gets kidnapped by the Supreme Custodian; Boy 412, a boy from The Young Army, was rescued by the Heaps from the deep snow that he was buried in, he turns out to be Septimus Heap; later Marcia, the Extra Ordinary Wizard, gets tricked by the Supreme Custodian and gets captured, so Silas goes to save her; he ends up getting Simon but not Marcia; DomDaniel, a Necromancer, holds her captive for the Supreme Custodian; Boy 412, Jenna, and the other Heaps end up saving her, drowning DomDaniel with his ship, The Vengance; there is a twist ending can not be spoken of Characters and descriptions: Silas Heap: seventh son of his father and mother, main character for most of the story, father of seven, wizard Sarah Heap: Silas's wife, mother of seven Nicko Heap: son of Sarah and Silas, wizard, becomes close with Jenna as friends Simon Heap: son of Sarah and Silas, wizard, was engaged to marry Lucy Gringe, eldest of the seven children Jenna: daughter of the old queen who was assassinated, is the purpose of the whole story, becomes close with Boy 412 Boy 412: a boy from the Young Army, saved by Marcia while trying to hide from the assassin, wizard, finds the ring of the last Extra-Ordinary Wizard, apprentice of Marcia Overstrand Marcia Overstrand: Extra-Ordinary Wizard, is the overseer of most things with the Heaps on this journey, is captured by DomDaniel and held on his ship, the Vengances DomDaniel: a apprentice of the last Extra-Ordinary Wizard turned evil, now a Necromancer, bossy Aunt Zelda: relative of Silas, takes care of the Heaps during most of the story, which, Conflict: Jenna was attempted to be kidnapped, Simon is captured, Marcia is held captive by DomDaniel on his ship, and Boy 412, Jenna, and Nicko rescue Marcia from DomDaniel's ship Theme: Keeping someone safe can cause you and others much harm. Author's Purpose: Entertain because it's a made up story that's fiction. Point of View: third person omniscient because the author knows all the characters thoughts and she always uses the words he or she. |

Drawl Conclusions: the only conclusions that aren't given really is how Boy 412 has this magical power without his ring, meaning he could be a possible wizard.
Vocabulary: warren: a network of interconnecting rabbit burrows. ale: a type of beer with a bitter flavor and higher alcoholic content. accommodation: a room, group of rooms, or building in which someone may live or stay. riffraff: disreputable or undesirable people. well-trodden: a path that is used a lot by people. Finding the big ideas in texts: Fight or flight, scared, desperation The author's message is family is the best company. i connect to this because i love being around my family, weather just my mom, dad, and brother, or my whole family. I cant recall anytime this idea has been expressed in readings before. |
After Reading
Make a Connection: Focusing on text-to-text connections:
this reminds me of the Heroes of Olympus Book 3: The Mark of Athena because they're are hiding from the Romans. This text is not similar to other books I've read. Questioning: I would recommend to readers that like fantasy stories with twist endings that can mess with your head. I might change the ending just so it not as messed up because it can really mess with your head. If I could ask the author any question, I would ask why the ending couldn't be just a bit more clearer than what it was. |
